Shh...
Have you heard about the house down the lane?
A neighbour mentions a house. Someone knows someone who might be thinking of selling. A quiet word is passed from one person to another.
And, sometimes, that’s how a home finds its next person.
Shh… is our little corner for just that. A place for homes being shared by their owners, quietly finding their way beyond the village.
The Nexon Chateau
A grand 19th century château where much of the hard work has already been done
There’s something very appealing about a château where you can actually start living the dream without immediately signing up for years of building work.
Built in 1895, this handsome property sits in over 11 hectares of rolling countryside just outside Nexon in Haute Vienne. Behind its elegant, well-proportioned stone façade you’ll find around 770m² of space, much of which has already been beautifully renovated and is ready to enjoy.
The ground floor has exactly the kind of presence you’d hope for: a grand entrance hall, two reception rooms, a billiard room, study and a large dining room, all with marble fireplaces that remind you this is very much a proper château. The kitchen, finished with granite worktops, opens directly onto a south-facing terrace looking out over the grounds.
Upstairs, the first floor offers six generous bedrooms, four of which have already been fully renovated, along with four bathrooms. Above that, there are a further nine bedrooms waiting to be brought back to life, while the former servants’ floor and vast attic remain wonderfully intact and full of potential.
And then there’s the rest of the estate.
Across the courtyard are the original stables, which include a three-bedroom apartment, two studios and additional spaces still to restore, along with an old gatehouse that is already fully habitable. Tucked away behind the buildings is a walled secret garden, adding a real sense of discovery to the whole place.
So yes, there is still work to do here for anyone who wants it — but it’s not the kind of project that takes over your life from day one.
It’s a rare opportunity to buy a genuinely substantial French château and start enjoying it immediately, while gradually deciding what you want the rest of it to become.
